Hello, beautiful soul. I'm Skylar, and I'm a dreamer. I found my passion for photography while doing photographic research in developing nations for a global non-profit. After working in a dozen impoverished and developing nations where I saw poverty, it became clear to me that we all have a responsibility to give back and to love as much as we can while we are here. I'm inspired by the people I meet whose perspective gives them both balance and courage in the face of adversity. I was raised in Wilmington, NC and graduated cum laude from the College of Charleston. As a marathon runner and teacher of yoga, barre and meditation, I am an advocate for global health and wellness. I believe life is more meaningful when it's in the service of others and I'm thrilled to work with purpose-driven people and organizations.
I found yoga when I was 14 years old and I have practiced ever since. Over time, I realized my favorite part of any yoga class was the mindful connection I made with myself, not the postures. This is what propelled me to examine mindfulness more seriously. Fast forward to 2015 where I took my meditation practice one step further and completed a full Vedic meditation training in NYC with Thom Knoles. This knowledge coupled with past teachings from a myriad of teachers have prepared me for this moment with you. With my help, you will be able to reduce stress and anxiety, enhance stillness of mind, deepen awareness, improve memory and concentration and recover from trauma. The benefits of a meditation practice are astounding. If you don't meditate already, you should start, you should start right now. A consistent meditation practice has changed my life and it will change yours, too.
As much as I love to sit down and meditate, I crave movement every day. As a dancer and athlete, barre movements feel natural and match the intricate technique I was taught since I was a child in ballet. I found this in Barre3. My class combines the grace of ballet with the strength of Pilates and the wisdom of yoga. The workouts are designed to transform the body to one of equal balance, strength and flexibility.
When not on an adventure, I have two feet on the ground (and a camera in hand) in New York City.
